• UN's International Atomic Energy Agency chief met with Russian military officials in Moscow and a state atomic energy company to discuss setting up a protection zone around the Kremlin-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi said more negotiations were needed, as Russia's state company Rosatom described the talks as "substantive, useful and frank."

• Pro-Russian authorities blamed Ukraine for a rocket attack that seriously damaged the mayor’s office in Donetsk, a key Ukrainian city controlled by the separatists. Kyiv didn’t immediately claim responsibility for the attack, while Ukrainian officials said Russian rockets wounded six people in Nikopol, a city across from Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant controlled by Russia.

• Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was shut down due to continued shelling around the site as the attacks on Europe’s largest nuclear plant have cut power cables and rendered layers of safety-backup systems ineffective by Friday. The decision to shut down its last reactor has been made to avoid a radiation disaster as fighting rages in the area. International Atomic Energy Agency urged both sides to erect a safety and security zone around the station.

• UN's atomic watchdog called for a “safety and security protection zone” at Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant where ongoing shelling in the roundabouts has alarmed the world of a possible nuclear emergency. The International Atomic Energy Agency, which is set to brief the UN Security Council, said that shelling around the nuclear complex should be “stopped immediately.”

• Russia’s Ministry of Defense warned Thursday that Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant’s backup support systems had been damaged as a result of shelling, and in the case of an accident at Europe’s largest nuclear power plant it is occupying in southern Ukraine, radioactive material would cover Germany, Poland and Slovakia.
